The Lost Weekend (1945)

This is one of the films I really enjoyed that was shot in the 40's, and probably one of my all time favourites. What's so great about this movie is that so many people can relate to it. You might have once been there, have a friend who's been there or know a friend of a friend who's there right now. I always assumed that black and white movies take atleast 45 minutes before you start getting into the movie. I must say, this movie had my attention from the first scene.

A plot summary by Tom Zoemer:-

The unsuccessful writer Don Birnham is an alcoholic. Only his brother Wick and girlfriend Helen managed to keep him sober for 10 days and plan a little vacation on the countryside for the weekend. But Don manages to send them both away the evening before. Alone at home, without any money, he's desperate for something to drink.

Go ahead and watch it, you will not be sorry.

Next (2007)

I am yet to find a single human being on this planet who is a Cage fan. I've seen over a dozen of his movies and I feel that he lacks a skill, which we know as... acting. The only movie I can frankly say I enjoyed was Lord Of War. The guys tone, character and cold blooded extremely annoying attitude has been the same since he decided to sign up for Hollywood. I was flipping thru my cable last night and "Next" was almost have way through. The first thing that catches my eye in Cage's movies is that, anyone can play the role he plays! The guy has no talent. For example in "Next" they couldve gotten any, and I mean any newbie to play his role and the movie would've gotten the same mediocre reviews by the viewers. Acting is one thing and trying to get your eyebrows to make out everytime the director shouts "Action!" is another. If you find your self repeatedly getting suicidal tendencies please watch 'The Weather Man' and die slowly. Cage is ripping us all off! You want acting? This is acting...

Or this...

Those two shots alone say a thousand words.

I've got my fingers crossed for the next competent recruits and cvs Hollywood will be looking at.

Shia LaBeouf seems like he'll be going places.

Dog Day Afternoon (1975)

Three words really sum up Al Pacino's character in this movie. Considerate, understanding and a gentleman. Being a gentleman is one thing and being a bank robber is another, but a bank robber that is a gentleman! Comon! The combination may sound a little confusing, but 10 minutes into this movie and man! I couldn't wait to see how it all ends. I've seen a few of Pacinos films he had done in the 90's and sooner ones. It doesn't take a genious to see that the guy was on a role in his 70's. I highly recommend this movie to anyone who wants to see Al Pacinos other mean-killing machine side.

I wonder sometimes if anyone out there will ever remake a somewhat similar movie to Scarface. I even wonder at times if any actors today out there have the potential to even come close to Als masterpiece. I honestly had my hopes up for Depp, but his close compationate relationship with Burton suggests otherwise. I'm a huge Depp fan, but then again Pacino never accepted a role which made him look like this..

This comparison might not be the best, but the one with a bigger nutsack clearly is ...

Sitcoms and Series - Chapter 1

I found the need to name this article chapter 1 as I will be coming back a lot and recommending, ranting, or just talking about any new shows out there.

I keep track of my episodes and shows watched through Episode World

Its really helpful and extremely easy to use. All you do is make an account and bookmark your favourite shows. Once episode air it notifies you the day of the airing. You then tick the episode as "Save as watched" and carry on with your life.

Up-to-date I've watched 3226 episodes and 49 shows :) Obsessed I know. Well i thought i was obsessed until i met a guy last week who had 8 TB worth of tv shows. This guy had the good, the bad, the crap, the disgusting, shows that rocked, shows that sucked balls, the whole thing!

I'm currently tracking 20 shows. Before I get to that a few shows that have ended which I really recommend are:

  • The Sopranos
  • Fresh Prince Of Bel-Air
  • Just Shoot Me
  • 8 Simple rules
  • Martin

Shows that are still running and are always on the tip of my tongue when someone asks me what they should watch are:-
  • Two and a Half Men
  • How I met your mother
  • Rules Of Engagement
  • The Office (US)
  • Sons Of Anarchy
  • The Big Bang Theory
  • One Tree Hill
  • Curb Your Enthusiasm
  • 'Til Death

Things that matter in life...

What would life really taste like if we couldn't enjoy a few sashimi and maki rolls when the heart craves for a taste of heaven!

A pack of softpack lights in my shirt pocket always takes care of the stress and bad news.

The curiosity every week of wanting to know how Michael screw up things in a new episode is a rare and selfish feeling:)

One reason that forces me to make sure my next destination has gotto have a Wagamama.

My motive in life :)

The reason I smile.

Chronological Order Syndrome

I've developed this disease and obsession to watch sitcoms and series since 2005. What happens is as follows... as soon as I find my self enjoying an episode of sitcom or series I HAVE to stop watching immediately and begin watching the show from the pilot episode. For the past 4 years i've done this for over 25 shows and today I have ran out of "good" shows to watch. So I decided to start with what? Movies! You might ask, "how will you implement your infamous syndrome for movies?" Well, some of you are already thinking it. Yes I start from movies that were released as far as a century ago. Today I've reached the 60's but had to cheat a little and put aside some movies in the 40's and 50's which I plan to watch later on the new Sony Bravia 52" LCD my folks decided to buy when they sent us off to uni. They also decided to upgrade the living room coaches to leather! Something they were against when me and my brother were infesting the house before we were sent off. Also a cute little bean bag sits in the middle of the living room. Yes, my parents who've been around for almost 7 decades have decided that the main room - a place where they socialise with friends who once borrowed a cup of sugar from Trex- needs a bean bag.

Anyway, back to topic. I must say, I thoroughly enjoyed silent era movies. Specially some of Chaplins work. I never really knew how faboulous that man was until a few months ago. A few movies I would recommend for Charles Chaplin are:-
  • Modern Times
  • Gold Rush
  • One AM
  • City Lights
  • A Dogs Life
  • The Kid

Anywho, I will be posting another list of all the series, sitcoms, and movies (so far) that I would highly recommend anyone to watch.

Later

My new job description states..

that I'm one hell of a great procrastinator. I've been laid off since march, thanks to the cute little crisis. Since then I said I got 6 months left for my thesis. Today I got less than 3 months left to hand it in. Im done with my proposal and get the important info that I will be including in the thesis. so things aren't that bad after all?

The question now is, when am I going to type the first letter on Word that will jump start the thesis. What kinda sucks is I will be leaving Dubai for good one month after I hand in my thesis. Life sucks doesn't it? I've been here for 6 years and I just feel like this is where I belong. This is my home, not where ive lived for 16 years with my family. I've come to the solution on to why I hate and can't stand the thought of leaving Dubai. Its the whole freedom b.s. that I was deprived from before I left Qatar. Today I can consider my self happy. In November I will consider my self unhappy. I will put some effort to stay here for an extra year as I'm really not really to settle in Qatar just yet.

It really is a wonderful feeling knowing that at one stage you will be unhappy when you know you would've stayed happy if .... nevermind u know where im going.

I shall warn who ever is reading this, that I will bring up and insisting on when I recieve my big break a few times. I believe I will be getting it before the age of 25. I hope so, got my fingers crossed.
